In a press conference today, Michael Coteau, Ontario's Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport, announced the province's plan to turn Ontario Place into a year-round destination spot for Torontonians and tourists alike. The revitalized Ontario Place will have a mix of indoor and outdoor components, including a public common, a canal district with a waterfront promenade, a blue park for water activities and a revamped Amphitheatre (no more "Mostly Emptytheatre"!). Indoor features will include something they're calling a "culture, discovery and innovation" hub, which basically sounds like a big science fair. Construction will begin in the next few months, with the aim to have the project completed by 2016.

The Ministry has released some renderings showing what they hope to make happen at Ontario Place.
