A couple of days ago we posted a 1934 photo of a bustling Toronto intersection and asked you to guess the location. Several of you hit the nail on the head; it's the southwest corner of Gerrard Street and Greenwood Avenue, the western border of Little India, and the Italian grocer is now Brickyard Grounds, a busy cafe. Gerrard East was in a bit of a slump over the last ten years or so, as some longtime merchants closed up businesses to move to the suburbs. But things are on an upswing lately, and the many merchants who've been tenacious enough to stick around are being joined by new cafes and shops, attracted by the area's lower rents and easy 506 streetcar access.
