Alaska Condos at Eg; North York's New Look

YONGE AND EGLINTON-The Uptown Yonge Neighbourhood Alliance continues to oppose the plans for the Alaska Condos at Yonge Street and Strathgowan Avenue. Designed by OCAD table top architect Will Alsop, the proposed building is a white steel 11 storey condo that residents say is strangely "out of character for the neighbourhood." Also coming soon is the E Condos with the glass enclosed swimming pool that resembles a fish bowl in the sky.

NORTH YORK-The Hullmark Centre, currently under construction at Yonge Street and Sheppard Avenue is transforming the North York skyline. The new centre consists of office towers, retail space including a Whole Foods, and two luxury condos, 49 and 35 storeys. According to the developer, completion date is set for late 2013 though it doesn't look promising with lots of scaffolding still surrounding the building. Also under construction at Yonge and Sheppard is the Emerald Park Condos, with two 42 and 32 storey towers.

ST. CLAIR AVENUE WEST-Coming soon to the corner of Bathurst Street and St. Clair Avenue is the RISE Condominiums. The condo will be 25 storeys with over 300 units. Construction is set to begin this winter with an estimated completion date of 2015. The Petro-Canada gas station across the street has recently closed possibly paving the way for future developments. Expect more traffic delays along Bathurst Street especially with the major renewal to Holy Blossom Synagogue, one of Toronto's oldest synagogues, scheduled to begin in 2014.
